Changes and new beginnings...
Week in my shoes...
So, I’ve
been quite busy this week, and it makes me little sad that I haven’t had time
to write the blog. My kid is moving out, so planning that has taken a lot of
time from my free time, also I started to create downloadable grimoire pages
with art for you to have, which also is quite time consuming. I want to make
them nice and informative enough to go on. Probably first set is available
later next week.
Making it easy
and simple, I have to find something to make them available for the people who
enjoy reading my blog and other content, or maybe I’ll just make them be
accessible for everyone, as I’ve planned them to be free for now.
Though, I
have ethical dilemma with that, as there are quite many crafters selling
similar type of things, and I don’t want to step on their toes. They do
wonderful work. I enjoy and have purchased some of the content they have made -
as you’ve seen on my grimoire post, and it is important that people buy their
pages and such, even though there are free content available.
If you have
suggestion how I should manage this, let me know.
I didn’t
post week in my shoes- post from last week either, so this post covers longer
period.
This period
of time has been less witchy and more about mundane things, though, in my
opinion, I think being a pagan and a witch, is more about the mundane too, not
all things considered being a crafter is fancy and exciting.
My views of color magic and elements of the craft explained
Week before,
I did cover shortly color black, which is my favorite color, I think I have
always loved it. As a color, it is very fascinating and in witchcraft, it has
quite a place in history and use. I view colors more from the perspective of
how they make people feel, how they are seen and what impact they make in that
specific moment, and that does influences my craft. I understand that there is
commonly agreed purposes for colors in magic, and most of them comes from historical
views, culture and religions - Wicca has been quite huge influence for many of
things we see in modern day witchcraft, but we shouldn’t forget about the gut
feeling and the inner voice when it comes to picking out magical elements for
our work.
Don’t
forget that I’m talking about witchcraft as a craft, not as a religion, as
witchcraft is not that, Wicca is a religion, so is Asatru, Voodoo, Christianity
etc and like usually in religion, they have their own rules, views and such,
but they only ably in witchcraft practices and other activities inside that
certain belief. Even that said, nothing stop you from using those believes and
views in your craft, as the greatest guideline in witchcraft I think is, that you
should follow the path the way it feels right for you. As a religion-wise, I
lean more towards the Nordic and Celtic mythology and lore, and even my believes
are mixed with cultural, regional and life experiences, and the inner guide. My
ethical and moral compass comes within, not from the rule books of any kind.
Life itself isn’t always good, nice and happy, neither am I.
I also
posted rant about herbs and flowers, I did plant to make actual informative text
about commonly known plants, but there are quite many of those around and tons
of valuable books written, so I suggest people to find the best source of
information from the content that is already available. It doesn’t mean that I
won’t do them eventually though, as I do find plant lore and facts interesting.
Don’t be afraid of using your beautiful grimoires
Then there
is the post about books and grimoires, how to do them, what to include in there
and so on. I’m waiting my handmade leather journal, - which I bought from etsy,
to arrive. I said in the post that those what I showed aren’t my personal
journals, but as more like my study books. I use those books for collecting the
information I need, might need and things that I find interesting. The book I
bought, is for the personal stuff, stuff that makes my path and things that
made me grow as practitioner.
I haven’t
had book like that in a long time, just haven’t found one that I’ve liked, nor
have made one that felt right for that purpose.
Anyway, I
see people has beautiful books and such, but are afraid to use them. There is
nothing to be afraid, you can’t do wrong, and don’t be afraid of making
mistakes, those can be always fixed, just need bit of creative mind and effort,
but the beautiful book doesn’t break because of that, and it doesn’t lose its
beauty. I think, mistakes make it even more great, as it shows that you’ve
tried, learned and got over it.
I know that
some people like to keep things order, and there is nothing wrong with that.
For those, binders and books that can be arranged are best solution, but I just
like to think that as a book of craft, do we really need to keep thing in
order? Makes me wonder if doing things in the book as you go, reveals you about
the journey and growth better? keeping it in order does help you find things
easier, but as you work the book and know it, you probably learn to navigate
the book either way.
Just, use
your books people and don’t be afraid of the messes and mistakes, accept them,
fix them and move on.
Mundane can be magical and witchy
My life outside of the blog writing, last week was more about outside work. I helped my sister to fix up her backyard, now she has quite comfy place to enjoy the summer days outside. Also I got my mini garden ready, it holds most of my herbs, some flowers, rocks, and small pool for water. I did post the picture of it on Instagram, but here is more resent one. It does look nice, but I want to add some garland and green vine plats among the rocks, though don’t know which plants yet. I feel like it needs some statues there too; I hope I find something that interests me. I made few decoration pieces too, the ones that are great for altar or hanging on windows and such, I never have done those type of crafts before. In Fact, I don’t even know what they are called either, maybe macramé? Though, my pieces do not have many knots, so maybe not that.
Anyway, I like doing them, and first one presents moon and its phases, or that is how I see it. Other one is my views of sun, not ready yet though, but hopefully soon. I plan to make one for my sister’s garden and my son’s new apartment. These are the types of work I consider being witchcraft art, as they are decorative pieces but holds the intent and thoughts of lots of things like happiness, love, protection and so on. It’s like kitchen magic, you put your intent and thought to things you create and make the mundane things magical. Practical witchcraft.
Subscriptionboxes…
Earlier
this week I got the subscription box from Freya’s cauldron. It contains lots of
practical things to use in witchcraft, I will make a review post about it
later, but I can suggest it for people that need basic materials, that are
practical and nice to look at and maybe has no time to go around and gather
things to use by themselves. This box is not for those that looks for more
aesthetic things, even though in this box has few of pretty pieces for decoration.
In general,
my view on the subscription boxes are positive. Some of them seems to be
lacking something and has more items that really has little or no use in craft.
Maybe they are meant to be more about collectible jewelry and other things.
When you are picking witchcraft box, you should search the review videos and
posts about the specific box first and base your choice to what you actually
need.
Before I Go…
As I said
in the beginning, my son is moving out. It is a good thing, even though it
makes me edgy and unbalanced. Growth is always good, and this is one of those moments,
for me and my son. New chapter in our family history, it will bring new opportunities
and adventures for both of us. I told my son, which he already knew, that even
though he has own home, he still has home with us and we’re always with him, no
matter what.
Blessings,
Jady
