Magical herbs, roots and flowers

There are quite many plants that has potential use in magic. Many pagan and witchcraft shop sell good variety of dried herbs, roots and flowers, prices varies and sometimes the amount of the herb can be quite small, but usually you don’t need to use a lot of herbs and such when working. 

I see a lot of people writing about how they are not able to buy supplies to use, everyone has their own reason, and it seem that many think that, if they can’t buy such and such herb or whatever, they cannot do the things they want. I understand that, especially if you are someone that is very new to the practicing craft, you probably don’t want to make mistakes.

But let’s just think about a little, I think everyone of us lives in the area that has something growing around the neighborhood, and it is likely, that there is some forest or park nearby. Those places holds huge amount of energy, history and plants, many different types of plants. I mean, it is ok to buy certain herbs, but it is also ok to use what is around, and most likely the plants, trees etc. has much, or maybe even more needed energy to use. I am sure, that the area where you live, has tons of folklore to study and to use that knowledge in your craft. 

Do you need mugwort (artemisia vulgaris)? Probably it is growing around you, if not, then there is a quite many other plants in the group of artemisia plant that can be used for same purpose, maybe not orally, but in other use. Or maybe some other plant or tree, that grows around you has similar meaning, use that. 

Some of the herbs and flowers are commonly used in teas and spices, you can use those as well. I like chamomile tea, and I use that in magical work too if I need it. My favorite herb in kitchen is marjoram, I usually spend tons of if when cooking, but I also use from the same jar if I need it for magical work. 

When you need plant materials for magical work, use what you have, or buy from shop. Both are good ways to gather supplies for yourself, even better if you buy small business or the owner themselves belong to the community. Remember to trust your inner feeling and listen what it says, go with that.

If you want to read about what herb is commonly used in certain type of magical work, The Witchipedia has quite huge list of them. It seems decent page to start, but I suggest you learn the folklore and history of the plants from different sources. 

I’m sorry that this isn’t long one, I had bad day and I forgot that I was supposed to write this piece for Tuesday and was working on color one, my bad. This isn’t probably the way you wanted to be, as I didn’t go much into actual herbs and flowers, I’m again sorry about that, but I don’t think I can write anything new about them that isn’t already in other blogs and pages, or in books.
